Brief Overview of the Department of Physics

The Department of Physics is one of the academic departments within the College of Education for Pure Sciences. It was established in the academic year 1992–1993 as a dynamic and pioneering department with the goal of preparing scientific and educational professionals capable of keeping pace with academic and technological advancement.

The department currently comprises a qualified academic staff of 26 faculty members, including 10 Professors, 10 Associate Professors, and 6 Lecturers. Faculty members are actively involved in supervising postgraduate students (Master's and Ph.D.) and in evaluating theses and dissertations both within and outside the university.

Since its inception, the department has contributed to the graduation of numerous Bachelor's degree holders who have gone on to serve in various ministries and key sectors of the state. The department emphasizes the development of students’ skills and expertise to ensure excellence in its academic outcomes.

At the time of its founding, the department began with 4 Ph.D. holders, 4 Master's holders, and 5 Bachelor's holders, accepting 32 students in its first academic year. Since then, the number of students has steadily increased, attracting individuals from across the provinces of Iraq. The department also later opened an evening study program, which has successfully graduated many students who have gone on to contribute their expertise across various fields of life.
