Department of Chemistry
Brief Overview of the Department of Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry was established in 1992 as one of the first scientific departments within the College of Education. The department aims to graduate qualified professionals equipped with both theoretical and practical foundations in various branches of chemistry, including organic, inorganic, analytical, physical, biochemistry, and industrial chemistry. Graduates are trained not only to teach these principles and skills but also to solve scientific problems using research methodologies. They also acquire foundational knowledge in educational psychology, teaching methods, and educational administration, enabling them to effectively manage teaching and learning processes in educational institutions.
The department emphasizes the practical applications of chemistry in fields such as industry, agriculture, environment, and medicine, reflecting the discipline's relevance to many aspects of life.
Morning study admissions began the same year the department was founded, and in 2008, the first cohort of students was admitted to the evening study program. The department offers a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry through a comprehensive academic program that includes 64 credit hours of core chemistry and mathematics courses, in addition to 32 credit hours of general and educational subjects. The first cohort of bachelor's graduates completed their studies in the academic year 1995–1996.
In 1998, the department introduced its postgraduate program, offering a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Chemistry, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Chemistry program, contributing to the advancement of scientific research and higher education in the field.
The Department of Chemistry aspires to advance in alignment with international standards, aiming to become a model in delivering high-level academic, scientific, and intellectual education to students. This vision positions the department as a distinguished entity among chemistry departments at the local, regional, and global levels.
